This case study examines the successful integration of NoahFace’s facial recognition timekeeping system with Valor Hospitality Partner’s operations. Valor Hospitality, a leading global hotel management company, has enhanced its timekeeping and payroll processes, particularly within its U.S. properties, by addressing significant challenges and implementing innovative solutions.
Valor Hospitality is a leading global hotel management company employing over 2,000 hourly employees with properties that span across the world, including the Americas, UK & Europe, Africa, Middle East & Asia.
In the U.S. alone, the company operates 20 properties, with 13 of those currently using smart iPad-based time clock solutions from NoahFace. The team responsible for deploying NoahFace across Valor Hospitality’s properties is led by Lakiesha McDaniel, Director of Systems Administration, who oversees IT and payroll functions, ensuring seamless operations across their properties.
Prior to integrating NoahFace, Valor Hospitality faced several challenges with their timekeeping system:
Initially, Valor Hospitality used a combination of the standard Workday app along with kiosk time clocks for employee time clocking, and found the solutions to be cumbersome. To ensure the proper levels of security, the existing solutions required employees to log in through a multi-step process involving multi-factor authentication and IP restrictions, which led to frequent issues with clocking in and out.
Because there were so many issues with getting clocked in, and because the process required so much time and effort, many employees became frustrated and often missed punches. As a result, managers frequently had to manually enter missed time for employees, resulting in inefficiencies and administrative inaccuracies.
“We were just noticing that a lot of people were having difficulties clocking in and out, and it led to the manager having to enter a lot of missed time for their employees,” McDaniel said. “We were trying to figure out a better solution.”
McDaniel also mentioned the challenges that come with setting up traditional time clocks, including the need to coordinate and work with the IT department in order to make the systems work correctly. These configurations require a significant amount of time for every piece of time clock hardware being deployed, and Valor Hospitality was seeking an option that would be more straightforward to setup.
To address these issues, Valor Hospitality implemented NoahFace’s facial recognition technology, beginning first with a pilot run at one of their largest properties to ensure a smooth rollout. The system proved to be user-friendly and easy to set up, leading to successful adoption across additional properties.
NoahFace’s facial recognition feature allows Valor Hospitality employees to clock in and out effortlessly, eliminating the need for passwords and multi-factor authentication. This change simplified the process and reduced time lost due to technical difficulties. The system also supports multiple job positions, enabling employees to easily and quickly switch roles without additional logins.
When asked about feedback from employees, McDaniel shared that employees just comment on how easy the system is to use.
Both employees and managers have reported that NoahFace is preferred due to its ease of use. Employees appreciate the simple facial recognition process, and managers benefit from fewer time card issues and less manual entry work.
“They always say it’s just so easy,” McDaniel said of the employees’ and managers’ responses to NoahFace. “It’s definitely the preferred timekeeping method.’
"[Employees and managers] always say 'it's just so easy.' It's definitely the preferred timekeeping method."
The setup of NoahFace’s system was straightforward, requiring minimal IT assistance. Setting up an iPad for timekeeping now takes approximately 10 minutes, compared to the more complex setups previously required. In fact, the setup itself surprised McDaniel with her first NoahFace implementation.
“When we did our first pilot, I actually went down to the property to set up the iPads, thinking it was going to be more difficult than it was,” she recalled. “But now I just do it over the phone or on Teams with whoever is there at the property with the iPad. It probably takes a total of 10 minutes to set up the iPad and have it up and running.”
Valor Hospitality has standardized NoahFace across all new properties, making it the default timekeeping solution. This consistency improves operational efficiency and employee satisfaction.“We’ve just had such great success with it that we’ve made it the standard,” McDaniel said. “Any time we take on a new property, it’s just the standard time clock. They just get it and they're off and running.”
Valor Hospitality Partners’ transition to NoahFace’s facial recognition timekeeping system represents a successful case of technological advancement addressing operational challenges. By replacing outdated methods with a modern, efficient solution, Valor Hospitality has streamlined its timekeeping processes, improved employee satisfaction, and reduced administrative workload.
