Clocking In and Out using Multiple iPads

NoahFace fully supports employees clocking in and out on different iPads. There are several approaches you can use as follows:

  • Clock In/Out Screen in Manual Mode.
  • Clock In/Out Screen in Auto Mode.
  • Attendance Screen.

You should select the approach that best addresses the detailed requirements of your business.

Clock In/Out Screen in Manual Mode

The Clock In/Out screen displays a green Clock In button and a red Clock Out button (you can re-label these buttons as needed) that employees press to record events:

In Manual Mode, NoahFace does not track whether employees are currently clocked in or out, and the screen is identical in all cases.

The advantages of this approach are:

  • The user experience is simple and intuitive.
  • The user experience is always lightning fast.
  • The user experience is identical when there is a complete network outage.
  • Data can be collected during clock in (eg: projects, customers, work types, jobs) or clock out (eg: comments, tips, sentiment) as needed.
  • Managers can use all NoahFace reports, including the Site Summary and Pay Cycle reports, as needed.
  • Managers can use the NoahFace Go mobile App to monitor and manage their teams.

The disadvantages of this approach are:

  • Employees could press the wrong button.

To use the Clock In/Out screen in Manual Mode, simply select a Screen Type of "Clock In/Out" in your Access Point Type:

To learn more about configuring the Clock In/Out screen, see: Kiosk Screen Configuration.

Clock In/Out Screen in Auto Mode

The Clock In/Out screen displays an employee's current clocking status and either a green Clock In button or a red Clock Out button (you can re-label these buttons as needed) that they can press to record events:

When you use the Clock In/Out screen in Auto Mode (or Break Mode), NoahFace tracks whether employees are currently clocked in or out and updates the screen as appropriate. If you also enable Status Sharing, when an employee is identified NoahFace connects to the Cloud in real time to ensure the clocking status for that employee is up to date (ie: in case they recently clocked in or out using a different iPad).

The advantages of this approach are:

  • The user experience is simple and intuitive.

Since NoahFace connects to the Cloud when an employee is identified, the disadvantages of this approach are:

  • The responsiveness of the user experience can vary significantly depending on the performance of the network and the NoahFace Cloud services.
  • The user experience will be different when there is a complete network outage (ie: it will fall back to Manual Mode, where both the Clock In and Clock Out buttons can be pressed).

You should therefore only use the Clock In/Out screen in Auto Mode (or Break Mode) with Status Sharing enabled if your network is 100% reliable and you are willing to accept variations in performance.

To use the Clock In/Out screen in Auto Mode with Status Sharing enabled, simply select a Screen Type of "Clock In/Out" in your Access Point Type and set the Screen Details as follows:

To learn more about configuring the Clock In/Out screen, see: Kiosk Screen Configuration.

Attendance Screen

The Attendance screen presents a single button that employees press to record their presence (you can re-label this button as needed):

When you use the Attendance screen, NoahFace does not track whether employees are currently clocked in or out, and the screen is identical in all cases.

This screen works well with HR / Payroll Systems that can automatically determine whether a clocking event is a clock in or a clock out (eg: UKG Ready, isolved, Payroll Metrics), but it will not work with HR / Payroll Systems that do not have this capability (eg: KeyPay).

The advantages of this approach are:

  • The user experience is extremely simple and intuitive.
  • The user experience is always lightning fast.
  • The user experience is identical when there is a complete network outage.

Since NoahFace is not aware of whether users are clocking in or out, the disadvantages of this approach are:

  • It is not possible to collect data during clocking.
  • Managers cannot use some of the NoahFace reports, such as the Site Summary and Pay Cycle reports.
  • Managers cannot use the NoahFace Go mobile App to monitor and manage their teams.

To use the Attendance screen, simply select a Screen Type of "Attendance" in your Access Point Type:

To learn more about configuring the Attendance screen, see: Kiosk Screen Configuration.
